- Reader – fangirl level of reading, nonfiction and fiction and all genres EXCEPT horror because I have a very active imagination and my beautiful brain starts to recreate the scary things I read about when it gets dark and I don’t need the stress
- Curious – I was great at school as a kid because I loved to learn, and then school sucked the life out of learning and I burned out. I had the privilege to stay home full time once I had my second kid, and while the burden of motherhood was way more intense than I imagined or planned for (I’ll be talking about on here a lot), the pros were that I got to slow way way down, and become curious again.
- Creative – For most of my life I did not think of myself as creative! I loved to read but my sisters were great at drawing and painting, while I was ‘smart.’ Being home with the kids has meant that we dance and sing and draw, and after repetition and leaning with natural movements/freestyle, I have found I AM creative, and what is bursting out of me is words. I don’t have characters that need to come alive, but instead images and concepts, that I need to get out and quite frankly have talked the ear off my husband and family members, so this is going to be the safe place for my words
- Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) with Sensation Seeking – I came upon the book “The Highly Sensitive Person” By Elizabeth Aron at 18 or 19, and immediately realized, oh wow this is me! However, because my lifestyle was working for me at the time, I didn’t learn more deeply about how to support myself, I just felt very seen and affirmed that there was nothing wrong with me, that this is why I was the way I was. I got overwhelmed with loud noises or being rushed, but because I studied a lot I had the quiet time I needed to balance it out. I was considered serious and responsible, but I also went skydiving for my 18th birthday. When I told people they all said, “You?!” And I was confused at the reaction. Since that time though, I have been doing a deep dive into HSP self care and HSP parenting because I have STRUGGLED while being a parent with zero down time. We HSPs need sleep AND down time, and with kids the only down time you get is when they sleep, which is also the only time you can sleep. It is a vicious cycle.
- Cuban American – I was raised in Miami, FL, and both sides of my family left Cuba in the early 1960s. My dad’s family were in upstate NY but my mom’s family came to Miami and have been there ever since. They took me to the beach and had family gatherings all. the. time. and we also had lechon for Noche Buena (roast pork on Christmas Eve). Look up Jenny Lorenzo’s Abuela on YT to get an idea of the Cuban Miami exilio culture.
